Zhang Fan (Olddog)
Zhang Fan is a freelance illustrator and artist based in Jinan and Beijing, China. He graduated from Shandong University of Arts with a degree in Sculpture and was an artist-in-residence in Paris in 2019. Specializing in book illustration and children’s books, he remains consistently engaged in painting and personal projects.
Zhang Fan began his career as an illustrator in 2016. His work “the flower” won the Golden Pinwheel Grand Award at the 2017 CCBF Shanghai International Children's Book Fair, which led to his invitation to design the main visual poster for the 2018 CCBF Shanghai International Children's Book Fair. His work “The Subway” won the Gold Award in the Original Picture Book category at the 2018 Frankfurt Book Fair Global Illustration Award and was also shortlisted for the 2019 Nami Concours Illustration Exhibition in Nami Island, South Korea, as well as the Jury Grand Prize at the 2019 BIBF Ananas Youth Illustrator Competition at the Beijing International Book Fair. His work “Where Are We Going?” was shortlisted for the 2020 BIBF Ananas Youth Illustrator at the Beijing International Book Fair. Additionally, his piece “if” won Third Prize at the 2020 Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award's Original Illustration Exhibition and was also shortlisted for the 2020 Frankfurt Book Fair's Global Illustration Award.
